Mendel funicular

An adventure in its own right

Europe's steepest and longest funicular takes you from the village of Kaltern to Mendel Pass; it opened in 1903 and was fitted with new cars in 2009, now gaining well over 2 km and 900 meters in only 12 minutes. Its most famous passenger was very likely the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Josef in the year 1905.
